Saturday Blues
Strange to wake up on saturday morning with a slight case of the blues? No reason. I know what the solution is, do you? Put on your walking (running) shoes and get your self out the door . Movement makes a brain happy. Seriously, I am not making that up. Brain chemicals....dopamine for instance, will rise in your brain literally forcing you out of the blahs or blues or whatever may be ailing you. Try it- if it does not lift your spirits a little ( or alot) let me know and I will give you another solution. Like quit eating all that crappy food and get over yourself? Walkers unite -your brain is depending on you.

Is it hurting yet? 5 lb weights are for pussies
No , I am not talking about a root canal or anything else that takes a while to throw some pain your way. I am talking about the amount of weight you lift and how hard to do that lifting or pushing or schlepping.
We now know for certain (big fancy studies done by people with way too many phd's after their names) that lifting little tiny weights for a jillion repetitions yields results that are marginal. So pick up the 8 lb or the 10lb and leave the 5's alone. We are grown ups and need to get tired by rep 10 or our 15 rep set. Resistance training implies effort, no?
Oh and those ladies (madonna, gwyneth, tracy anderson, etc) who swear by less weight more reps....they are super skinny with very low body fat...so anything seems like it works! They have muscles that are not covered up by fat like the rest of us mere mortals! Get your triceps ripped,your shoulders buffed and your booty round, go for the biggest weights you can safely handle.
Screw getting "toned" what does that mean? I see Lee riders and khakis with pleats in your future! Personally I want Madonna arms when I am 50. C'mon you know you admire them- raise your own bar, or I will!

spring has sprung....have you?
I know you are "tres fatigue,down in the dumps....with fat lumps? I realize that things may not be looking all that appetizing when you are in the buff. LETS GET ON WITH YOUR HEALTH ALREADY!
FUN FACT#1-Did you know that most most folks over the age of 50 say they would like to live to be 100 tears old?
FUN FACT#2-These same folks are currently 30 lbs. over their college weight....hmmm.
FUN FACT#3- 80% of your health and longevity are dictated by your lifestyle choices (at the half century mark) only 20% by your genetics! So quit blaming your parents and start taking responsibility for your good living habits.
FUN FACT#4-Women with a high percentage of body fatcould be at ahigh risk for breast cancer, whether they are at a healthy weight or not. Those ladies with a high fat-to-muscle ratio had at least 3 times the risk of breast cancer as those with a low ratio, regardless of their weight or menopausal status.
FUNFACT#5-Did you know that women ages 35-69 felt ANXIETY over AGING an average of 252 times a week! This comes from a British health survey.
What's the point? Your health is about the only place in life where you have autonomy. Health is wealth, you cannot enjoy all of your "money success" if you are sick. This may sound dramatic....but it is the truth. Chronic illness is often the result of an accumulation of bad health habits-that lead you to sickness. I dont care what zipcode you sleep in or what kind of car you drive....HEALTH TRUMPS ALL!

march madness and daylight savings time
What do it mean? More time to eat - it stays lighter later . Our brain think "hmm seems like it must be time for my second dinner it aint dark out yet." DO NOT go out like this ! More light longer really means fresh healthy plant based diet ( beautiful produce is just around the corner) with some lean protein sprinkled on top! And that glorious sunshine also means that there is time for a round of exercise in the a.m and a SECOND round waiting for you in the evening. is your ass hanging low? Is your gut hanging over your waistband of your undies?
Not pretty. Totally fixable. And please spare me the pre and the post menapausal whining. I know it is a drag to think about spring and summer coming soon and that you have some work to do. But that is the truth, so lets get cracking. If you commit to putting plug in your mouth and coming to see me a couple times a week - your ass will be back up on your back! Not sagging close to mid thigh! If I can do it -we all can do it? There is power in numbers-come see the pilateslady NOW.

Eat your veggies EVERYDAY!?
Yep, it is true. Your poor old body cant store those water soluble vitamins and minerals that you took in when you ate that broccoli for breakfast. Oh and that multi you are taking cant make up for the veggies you dont eat. That is why your pee is a vibrant shade of orange- absorption is everything. Make your goal to have different colored veggies with every meal- yeah, I know broccoli for breakfast is a stretch. But maybe someday....when you see how shiny and gorgeous your skin and hair and skin are looking you will believe me. The odds of you getting cancer or the bowel or breast go way down too! I predict you will turn into a kale eating fool before 2011. Health and youth come in the plant form.....pilateslady

a brand new year
wow so now it is a year later....i was not a big blogger last year. BUT things are changing.....look out for some great blogging . Lets start where we left off. I think we were talking about your booties? Any growth along those lines ? Most likely. They tend to grow even when you wish they would not. Are you moving your booty around enough? They like activity....kind of like horses like apples ...ya dig?
